Commercial Bank of Dubai to launch digital-only bank

Commercial Bank of Dubai to launch digital-only bank

Commercial Bank of Dubai (CBD) is targeting the digital-savvy citizens of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with a mobile app-based bank.
The digital-only bank, which will launch early in 2017, will be known as CDB NOW and will be based on a customer’s mobile phone.
Murray Sims, general manager personal banking group at CBD, said this approach to banking will change the relationship between bank and customer.
“CBD NOW will redefine what a bank should be. It is built around customers and offers a unique experience that is simple, smart and safe, whereby everything can be done by smartphone,” he added.
The launch will target the generation known as Millennials, who carry out much of their daily activity through a smartphone.
Mobile banking is being used more than any other form of online bankings. For example, in the UK, which has a more mature digital banking economy, the British Bankers Association recently revealed research showing that there were 11 million log-ins to banking apps every day in 2015, compared with 4.3 million log-ins to internet banking through bank websites.
According to a recent report from FinTech Week, only 0.1% of global finanical technology (fintech) investment originates from the Middle East. However, these organisations are behind their western equivalents in fintech, there are signs of acceleration of its adoption in the UAE.
In October 2016, UAE telco Etisalat launched a mobile wallet to enable its customers to make payments and money transfers on their smartphones, using a platform from Oberthur Technologies.
Meanwhile, the fintech development on everyone’s lips at the moment – blockchain – is also being adopted in the region. ... ... ...
Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange recently said it would provide access to documents on listed firms via mobile devices through a blockchain-based system. Emirates NBD banking group also recently announced a pilot for the use of blockchain for transactions between the UAE and India.

App to help Tackle Mental Health

How a former model decided to launch an app to tackle Mental Health

Mental health is one of the buzzwords of the moment, especially now Royalty like Prince William and Duchess Katherine have been championing it, along with Kid Cudi, Cara Delevingne and others saying that they would be open to sending their children to counselling.
One in five people have suffered from depression, one in two will suffer of some other mental disturbance in their lifetimes. If you haven’t been through a mental health issue, you will likely know someone who has.
After encountering it in amongst those closest to her, former international model Silja Litvindecided to do something about it: “I learned about depression when I was a young teenager: a friend died through suicide, leaving me shocked and determined to fight depression.”
Starting with the knowledge from her own PhD thesis in clinical psychology, it became clear to here that fighting depression with an app could be possible. By “psycho-educating” with a test app she found the symptoms of depression could be significantly reduced. The next step of finding quick and professional help locally could be achieved with a client-therapist matching system in the app.
So she launched PsycApps which does both of the the above, and brings therapy to the ultimate comfort-zone: an iOS smartphone app, now launched.
At its essence, PsycApps helps you find out whether you or a loved one is suffering from depression, what to expect if that is the case, how to help them or yourself and how to get professional help fast. “We also lower the 6-week on average search for a therapist down to 20-30 minutes,” says Litvin.
She says the app is anonymous and highly secure, it asks a few demographic questions and then goes straight to the menu. There you can choose between information (what is depression), the screening (3 tests with 1, 7 and 21 questions), the therapeutic features (morning immune-booster: exercises to help activate clients in the morning, CBT exercises, visualisation exercises and positive psychology exercises), ‘find my therapist’ and stats (the outcome of the screening as well as everyday mood tracking).
Once the user/client has gone through the screening he/she will get one of five results showing the probability that they are suffering from depression (no symptoms to high-probability). Directly after the results they are shown a number of tips to self-stabilize and are directed to both the therapeutic features and the ‘find my therapist’ option.
Competitor apps include SAMThe Big White Wall and apps like Headspace and Calm.com.
But Litvin says app developers, especially in the medical industry tend to either be all about the medical space, neglecting UX and UI, or all about marketing, not ensuring evidence based practice. “We go on a journey with our clients, our user experience being non-intrusive and intuitive making the threshold to dealing with mental health issues as small as possible, while ensuring up-to-date psychological care,” she says.
So far the startup has raised £250,000 seed money from Angels but hopes to raise more. Eventually Litvin hopes to take a referral fee from the therapists and later and subscription model for a premium model.

Motorola Moto M India launch

Motorola Moto M India launch confirmed: Here are the specifications

Motorola has confirmed that the Moto M smartphone will be launching in India soon, confirms company.

Motorola Moto M is coming to India soon, confirmed the company. Here are the specifications and features.
Lenovo-owned Motorola has confirmed that the Moto M smartphone will be launching in India as well. The smartphone went on sale in China earlier this month, and press renders of the device were leaked ahead of its official launch. Motorola India’s Twitter handle tweeted saying, “Something different is coming your way. Stay tuned to know more,” with a picture of device all covered in gold. Given the level of bling in the photo, it’s safe to presume this is the Moto M, since it launched in a gold coloured variant in China.
Moto M features a a metal unibody design, with antenna bands on the top and bottom of the phone. Dimensions of the Moto M are 151.35 x 75.35 x 7.85 mm and it weighs 163g. The fingerprint scanner is on the back of the device, and it doesn’t have the square button like the one seen on the Moto Z, Moto Z Play smartphones.
Moto M has a 5.5 inch full HD Super AMOLED display at 401 ppi, runs the 64-bit MediaTek P15 octa-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz along with Mali T860 GPU. Moto M phone comes with 4GB LPDDR3 RAM and 32GB storage (supports microSD card slot of up to 128GB).
The new Moto phone has a waterproof coating and is splash resistant. The rear camera on the Moto M is 16MP with f/2.0 aperture and 1um pixel size, along with PDAF and dual LED flash. The front camera is 8MP with 1.12um pixel size. This is a dual SIM smartphone and also has a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Battery of Moto M is 3050mAh with fast charge support with type-C USB charging, and OTG support. The smartphone run Android Marshmallow 6.0. In terms of connectivity, Moto M has Bluetooth version 4.1 and WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac 2.4 GHz + 5 GHz band MIMO. It also has Dolby Atmos audio boost feature.
Motorola launched the phone in China at Yuan 1999 which is around Rs 19,990 on conversion, so the pricing will likely be around this range. Unlike last year’s Moto X Play which launched at under Rs 20,000 price band, the company doesn’t have any new offerings in this bracket for 2016. The Moto Z and Moto Z Play are firmly playing in the premium segment, so it is likely the Moto M will likely be the phone in the Rs 20,000 price bracket.

iPad Pro: 10.9in model to launch in 2017 without a home button

Plus-sized tablet will beat the iPhone 8 to it

THE NEXT-GENERATION Apple iPad tablet might be the company's first iOS device to dump the long-standing home button.
Despite talk that next year's iPhone 8 will be the first Apple product to ditch the physical button as we know it, Japan's Macotakara reports that the next-gen iPad Pro will beat it to the punch.
While previous rumours pointed to the iPhone 8 sporting a home button integrated into the display, the report claims that the Apple's next iPad will do away with the home button altogether.
This will, in turn, create the space for a bigger display, Macotakara claims, with the report noting that the next-gen model will cram a 10.9in display to fit into a tablet the same size as the current 9.7in iPad Pro.
This extra screen real-estate will also be accommodated by thinner bezels, the report claims, but notes that there will be a trade-off: it will be fatter. This rumoured 10.9in iPad Pro reportedly will measure in at 7.5mm-thick, which while by no means chubby, is the same as Apple's original iPad Air from 2013.
The last we heard, Apple was gearing up to launch three iPad models next year, and there was no mention of this mooted 10.9in model.
However, this rumour also came via Macotakara, with the site claiming back in October that Apple will launch 7.9in, 10.1in and 12.9in models. It's likely, we'll assume, that Apple has decided to dump the 10.1in version in favour of a roomier 10.9in model.
The smallest 7.9in model reportedly will arrive in place of the long-rumoured iPad Mini 5. It will come with a Smart Connector for hooking up Apple's Smart Keyboard cover, and an upgrade throughout with the addition of quad-speaker audio, four microphones, True Tone display with DCI-P3 Wide Color support, and a 12MP rear-facing iSight camera.
The 10.1in, or 10.9in model will replace the current mid-sized iPad Pro, while the 12.9in iPad Pro will offer an upgrade to Apple's current big-screen model with a 12MP rear-facing camera and True Tone display.
Apple has controversially dumped the headphone jack on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, but the report claimed that all three iPad Pro models will have a 3.5mm connection.

Ultimate APP for Car Fans

The Grand Tour - Clarkson, May and Hammond launch ultimate app for car fans
THE GRAND TOUR trio launch first social media app created for all motoring.
PHThe new DriveTribe app aims to bring motorists a social platform for the views
Clarkson, Hammond and May might have just rebooted their TV careers with The Grand Tour, but they are also launching a brand-new smartphone app.
Called DRIVETRIBE, this new social platform is aimed at giving motorists somewhere to express their passion for their favourite cars or motoring experiences.
The brainchild of the ex Top Gear trio, DRIVETRIBE has gathered over 1,500 of the motoring world’s best-loved writers, racers, photographers and filmmakers to create the social platform for every fan of every car and bike culture imaginable.
The app is available on both Apple and Android devices and, once logged in, it's up to the user to pick which tribes they want to belong to.
There's already hundreds of tribes including "The Perfect Roads", "Italian Masterpieces", "Petrolicious", and Jeremy's personal favourite "Dogs in Cars".
Plus there's the option to create your own tribes with the hope that other motorist share the same passions as you.

DRIVETRIBE is entirely content focused and completely socially driven, it's also free to download.
There's also the option to comment on posts and "bump" them up the rankings so more people get to view them.
Speaking about the app Jeremy Clarkson commented: “The internet is brilliant.
"You can watch Pandas sneezing and find out when it’s high water in the Easter Islands.
And James May added: “Car and bike websites are a bit like political refugees.
"There isn’t one place where they can all join together and make a new, utopian life.
"But DRIVETRIBE is like a broad, sunlit upland for all the people who like this stuff.
"It’s an online paradise stretching to infinity; inclusive, democratic, borderless, and unashamed. If two people have an interest in, say, the Bolivian custom car scene, there’s now a place for them to share it.
