Samsung To Delay Galaxy S8 Launch Date.
Earlier this week, Sammobile reported that Samsung is looking to shake up the design of the Galaxy S8 by replacing the home button with an all screen display.
That has now been backed up by unnamed sources speaking to Bloomberg. The report suggests that the home button, which has featured on every Galaxy device since inception, will be removed. In its stead: a full-screen display - not dissimilar to the Google Pixel - and a wrap around screen with the home button becoming a software feature
Let’s DOUBLE check that….
How Samsung comes back from the disaster of the exploding Note 7 has been the subject of intense speculation. It seems that we now have a small glimpse into Samsung’s plans.
“While Samsung is targeting a March release of the S8, that could be delayed until April, the people said. Samsung is adopting tougher testing procedures in the wake of the Note 7 debacle that could push back the launch by about a month, one of the people said.” Bloomberg’s report notes.
Whether or not an extra month of quality control will guarantee Samsung irons out any potential S8 problems remains to be seen. But it’s certainly a move that will feature in the phone’s marketing. Expect see Samsung heavily advertising that the S8 is 'the most vigorously tested smartphone in Samsung history’.
I suspect that we will be hearing more about Samsung breaking tradition in the run-up to the launch of the S8. The phone-maker has a lot of ground to make up after the Note 7 recall. It will want to offer a device that differentiates itself to a point where people are happy to take any supposed risk in buying it over non-exploding rivals.
